1 IMAGE = 1 POEM/1 SONG

ONE IMAGE:

ONE POEM:

FOR THE LOVE OF A BOOK

He discarded himself
All that he possessed
All of the for-granteds

That had been taken
And all the chances
That he took

Strewn on the sidewalk
Ripped from carry-alls
In profanities he ranted

Until he came upon it
That for which he searched
The love of a book

ONE SONG:

I TOOK HIS PHOTOGRAPH

I watched a man as he lived his blues
Having scattered everything he ever had to lose
While anything of gain meant nothing at all

Every street seemed to look the same
Every passers eye clipped with blame
For his deeper understanding of what it meant to fall

I took his photograph
His memory fixed in time
I let his image last
And his heart inside of mine

Though not what I want to witness everyday
It doesn’t mean that it’s been washed away
What some would have you scrawling on your wall

I took his photograph
His memory fixed in time
I let his im last
And his heart inside of mine

When the dark of night and the light of day
Echo everything the other has to say
As one might beckon the other will surely call
As one might beckon the other will surely call

Excellent Jim. Always happy to hear from you, and to receive the photos, the poetry. Off to visit David and Irene for a couple days later this week. Cheers, Doug and Heather.Sent from my iPadOn Jul 11, 2026,
