And, so it begins anew, again… that is, a home for all-things-art created by myself for myself and those who are curious and who wish to engage in what it is I create. And, what I “create” is a polymathic conglomeration of photography, poetry, music and painting with ink & watercolour.
If you have found or followed me here to jameshoustonarts.blog, WELCOME. From this point forward, please participate in what occurs when it does occur. The 4 arts involved frequently blend & bleed and overlap – so, photographic images often generate poetic verse, penned pieces can inspire song writing and paintings can originate from photographic studies or may be conjured in plein air. Admittedly, I never know what might occur from one thing to the next. Stuff happens… street photography, travel, verse, poetic idea, etc.
So, here we go…
This is a recent photograph, hastily shot from the passenger seat via the driver’s window at around 80 km/hr. The scene is Howe Sound on the coast of British Columbia, about an hour northwest of Vancouver. Gambier Island is the silhouetted land-mass middle-left in the frame with the sunlit peaks of the coastal mountains beyond. The rising sun is very low and has created a shadow of Gambier on the mountainsides just below the snow line, seen in the right of the frame.
It’s a “one-off” shot. I didn’t even check the camera settings. And, I had no idea what I had until I uploaded the image to edit in Lightroom. This is a good example of “stuff happens.”

And, now, here we are. Again, welcome. Visit often.
James
